Linear Actuators Meet Outdoor Aesthetics
The linear drive is hidden inside the frame of the recliner. Only the features that the user needs are visible. The drive operates almost silently and stops automatically if it encounters any resistance, ensuring the recliner is safe for all.
From Line to Form
The design process began with hand-drawn sketches that explored the relationship between the frame, the lying surface, and the drive mechanism. It became clear early on that the mechanical components should not be covered up, but rather integrated into the structure in such a way that they appear invisible without being hidden.
The road to a physical prototype
Step 1: Color Scheme
Anthracite, teak, and light gray complement each other in a way that isn't overpowering. These three materials were chosen early on and influenced all subsequent design decisions.
Step 2: Selecting the wood
Teak is one of the few types of wood that are truly durable when used outdoors. It is dense, weather-resistant, and has been used in boatbuilding for decades, and for good reason.
Step 3: Final Assembly and Testing
After installation, a stress test lasting several hours was conducted with a 150 kg load and 500 adjustment cycles.
No play, no noise, and no overheating of the drive.
